I’m all about buying local and certainly eating local as much as possible. When I ran across the Shop Small Fort Worth Instagram account, I was excited to see what local businesses existed that I wasn’t aware of. I met with Whitney Howell who is the brains behind Shop Small. Whitney, owns a home based business with her husband Robert. Whitney recognized a need for a group that would introduce local small business owners to each other since not everyone has a brick and mortar store. It was a way to make a local “etsy” for Fort Worth and surrounding areas.
Immediately Shop Small had 40 to 50 local sellers that were interested in joining the group. So with Facebook member requests flooding in, Whitney reached out to two local business owners to see if they would help run Shop Small. KC Cloud and Brandee Tapp happily agreed to help out. They both own small businesses; KC owns Cloud Creative Events and Brandee owns Two Guys Monogramming. The Facebook group now has over 2,000 members and the Instagram account has over 300 followers.
Us locals are lucky that Whitney saw the creativity and passion that locals here have for their products. Go follow Shop Small Fort Worth on Instagram or FaceBook. They do specials like “throw it away Thursday” where you can buy discounted items from sellers. Or “talk about me Tuesday” where you can learn about the local business. And although I can’t feature all of the vendors on my blog, I have included a few photos so you can get an idea of how lucky we are to have this group. Also, there’s talk about a potential market where you can check out the vendors all under one roof.
Thanks Whitney for your foresight and passion! Fort Worth is lucky to have you and Shop Small Fort Worth.
