No need to worry about Bugs Bunny showing up at Fort Worth Barber Shop. Although he does give a darn good massage.
Are you looking for a buzz, trim or shave? Then I’ve got the place for you. I recently sat down with Jonathan Morris, owner of Fort Worth Barber Shop, to discuss the best place in Fort Worth for a men’s haircut. Jonathan, grew up in Denton, but his parents and grandparents are both from Fort Worth. He tried living in Atlanta and Dallas before coming home to the Fort. He and his wife, Katherine (a TCU alum) settled down in Cowtown. Jonathan was working for an ad agency over in Dallas and started noticing that there wasn’t a great place to get a haircut. He started asking guys about where they go for hair cuts and most men were just apathetic. Y’all know that women are not apathetic about our hair. So Jonathan started exploring and thinking that there could be a better way for men. He wanted to open a shop that men wanted to come to and would return.
Jonathan knew that he wanted to go for a nostalgic look and finally found a great building on Lovell. During his research phase, he met Jennifer Felli. Jen was working full-time as a flight attendant and at Wrare. Due to the fact that Jonathan was working for the ad agency he needed someone whom he could trust and he found that in Jen. Together they gave the old building on Lovell some TLC and opened Fort Worth Barber Shop in October 2014.
The very first barber that Jonathan hired was John who he had seen on Instagram. John was working at his grandfather’s barber shop. Now they are up to five barbers. Each with a different background and story. However, they can all cut whatever type of hair walks in the door, which is unusual for a barber shop. They are all interested in growing and learning. Absolutely no Edward Scissorhands allowed.
A customer told me that he enjoyed the easy online access that Fort Worth Barber Shop offers. They made it easy for him to schedule his appointment, there is never a wait when he arrives, his barber does a great job, and paying is easy. You can also have a beer while you get your hair cut and listen to great soundtracks. They play everything from Buck Owens to Leon Bridges. I will say as a woman, I feel comfortable hanging out here while my husband gets his haircut; which hasn’t always been the case at barber shops.
Jonathan is invested in Fort Worth. He loves Cowtown and wants to see it grow and provide great services to its’ residents. He and Katherine are very community involved. I did ask him to name a few of his favorite things in Fort Worth:
Date Night: Clay Pigeon
Casual Restaurant: Taco Heads
Activity: Walk around the Modern Art Museum
Cocktail: Old Fashioned at the Usual
Go online today and book yourself an appointment at Fort Worth Barber Shop unless you’re a girl. Then go online and book that special guy in your life an appointment. They offer classic cuts, hot towel shaves and cool vibes. He will thank you. Plus you’re supporting a terrific local business.
